Dark energy sees the light

March 31, 2006
Dark energy has been proposed as the source of the universe’s accelerating expansion. However, no one knows what dark energy is, which allows particle physicists and cosmologists to stay up late dreaming up wild and untamed physics. Eventually these ideas must emerge from the dark, suffering the humiliation of peer review and presentation at a conference. Recently the Institute of Physics released the proceedings of “The Third 21COE Symposium: Astrophysics as Interdisciplinary Science” conference. Dark energy featured quite heavily in the conference proceedings, but in a gesture of self sacrifice I have waded through the psychedelic flowers of wild speculation and picked the three that looked most interesting.

In a paper by Varun Sahni, dark energy as a cosmological constant is examined. It turns out that if the cosmological constant actually is constant, then it must be fine tuned to get the universe we observe today. However, if the constant is replaced by a term that is allowed to evolve in time then a much wider range of starting values can be used. The physical laws that determine such a variation are not yet known; however, cosmologists have taken a stab at it, making models which are inspired by those used by inflation. This is a tenuous way to do science since inflation itself has much empirical evidence, but little is resolved from a theoretical point of view. One justification for linking the two is that our universe appears to have undergone two periods of inflation: one near the beginning of the universe and one in the present. The two have very different properties making it hard to create a single theory to encompass them both. Enter string theory, which through the addition of extra dimensions can accommodate such different scales.

In a second paper, a researcher considered looking for signs of dark energy in the laboratory. All dark energy models involve some modification to the laws of physics; however some of the most likely models involve fluctuations of the vacuum. These may be detectable using laboratory experiments. Previous work has shown that some vacuum fluctuations can be measured using a Josephson junction (though some theorists dispute these measurements). However, the frequency range of these measurements did not reach the range necessary to measure vacuum fluctuations that might be due to those associated with dark energy models.

It is interesting to note from these papers that dark energy in some form is accepted as necessary for cosmological reasons. However, there will need to be some solid theoretical ideas for what dark energy might be before it find acceptance outside of cosmological circles.

Dutchman builds modern Noah's Ark

Dutchman Johan Huibers is building a working replica of Noah's Ark as a testament to his Christian faith.

The 47-year-old from Schagen, 45km (30 miles) north of Amsterdam, plans to set sail in September through the interior waters of the Netherlands.

Johan's Ark is a fifth of the size of Noah's and will carry farmyard animals.

Mr Huibers, who plans to open the vessel as a religious monument and zoo, hopes the project will renew interest in Christianity in the Netherlands.

Although Mr Huibers has tried to remain true to the ark described in the Bible, Johan's Ark is constructed with American cedar and Norwegian pine, rather than "gopher wood".

'Smell of dung'

According to Genesis, Noah kept seven pairs of most domesticated animals, and one breeding pair of all other creatures.

Noah's wife, three sons and three daughters-in-law lived together on the boat for almost a year while the world was flooded.

Mr Huibers' vision is more modest - he said he plans to stock his ark with horses, lambs, chickens and rabbits - mostly baby animals to save space.

"This will speak very much to children, because it will give them something tangible to see that Noah's Ark really existed," Mr Huibers told the Associated Press news agency.

The total cost of the project is estimated to be just under 1m euros (£0.7m; US$1.2m) and was funded with bank loans.

Mr Huibers plans to charge people to tour the boat and said a drink and religious pamphlet will be included in the admission price. At least 100,000 people will need to visit for the project to break-even financially.

Mr Huibers said his wife was not very keen on the idea.

"She always says: 'Why don't you go dig wells in Ethiopia?'," he said. "I've been involved in projects there before but she understands this is my dream."

Reality of the physical world

So you think what you see is real or seeing everything that's there in front of you? Ponder this...

Visible matter is only 4% of what's in the universe, the rest is what modern scientists call "dark energy/matter" (because they cant see or detect it - that's why its called dark - what ever.. Call it what you will)

So visible matter is only 4% of the universe..
and since matter is just a slow vibration of the electromagnetic spectrum and just a tiny fraction of it at that... and the visible spectrum is only a tiny tiny frequency range of the electromagnetic spectrum

we are blind... to almost everything around us, except for a fraction of a fraction of a small % of what's really around us...

remember my post about just one tiny part of what you don't even see or know about... 5 million high energy solar neutrinos pass through every square centimeter of your body every second http://agabatti.blogspot.com/2006/03/now-thats-lot-of-untapped-energy.html

We are living a illusion...

Carbon cloud over a green fuel

Late last year in Goldfield, Iowa, a refinery began pumping out a stream of ethanol, which supporters call the clean, renewable fuel of the future.

There's just one twist: The plant is burning 300 tons of coal a day to turn corn into ethanol - the first US plant of its kind to use coal instead of cleaner natural gas.

An hour south of Goldfield, another coal-fired ethanol plant is under construction in Nevada, Iowa. At least three other such refineries are being built in Montana, North Dakota, and Minnesota.

The trend, which is expected to continue, has left even some ethanol boosters scratching their heads. Should coal become a standard for 30 to 40 ethanol plants under construction - and 150 others on the drawing boards - it would undermine the environmental reasoning for switching to ethanol in the first place, environmentalists say.

Virginia Training Manual Lists Property Rights Activists As Terrorists

Source
http://www.prisonplanet.com/articles/march2006/280306trainingmanual.htm

A Virginia training manual used to help state employees recognize terrorists lists anti-government and property rights activists as terrorists and includes binoculars, video cameras, pads and notebooks in a compendium of terrorist tools.

The manual, discovered by the Virginia News Source, is keen to emphasize that terrorists are not only Middle Eastern in scope and the main focus is afforded to domestic terrorism.

Included with Hamas, Al-Qaeda and Islamic Jihad, the following groups are identified as terrorist organizations.

In any anti-government and militia movements
Are property-rights activists
Are in any racist, separatist and hate groups
Are an environmental and animal rights activist
Are a religious extremist
Are in a street gang

Presumably, tourists, journalists, hikers, bird-watchers, scuba divers, artists, painters, and anyone who takes a photograph is also now a terrorists according to the official list of terrorist paraphernalia provided.

- sketch pads or notebooks
- maps or charts
- still or video camera
- hand held tape recorder
- binoculars
- SCUBA equipment
- disguises

Reading further into the manual, associations between domestic terrorists and the supporting the American Revolution are subtly made. In Alex Jones' 2001 documentary 9/11: The Road To Tyranny, FEMA officials give a seminar in which they identify George Washington, Thomas Jefferson and other founding fathers as terrorists.

The manual encourages people to report any suspicious activity to an authority figure. Presumably, if property rights activism is deemed suspicious then anyone protesting or communicating about the recent eminent domain issue will be reported and investigated on grounds of terrorism.

The manual concludes by encouraging state employees to seek more information from FEMA and Homeland Security.

Shortly after 9/11 a Phoenix FBI manual that was disseminated amongst federal employees at the end of the Clinton term caused waves on the Internet after it was revealed that potential terrorists included, "defenders of the US Constitution against federal government and the UN, " and individuals who "make numerous references to the US Constitution." Lawyers everywhere cowered in fear at being shipped off to Gitmo.

This manual is another surreal and frightening reminder that government officials are being trained to embrace a Gestapo like mentality whereby any political activism or even individualistic outdoor leisure activity is deemed to be suspicious and a possible indication of terrorism.

The Adams Pulsed Electric Motor

Invented in the period 1967-1969 by Mr Robert Adams of New Zealand, for a variety of reasons the technology did not win immediate acceptance, not least of which was that the New Zealand government and the Lucas corporation, for various reasons, allegedly directly suppressed it, followed by a typically botched and incompetent CIA assassination attempt. That this direct suppression could happen during a period of global economic crisis triggered by the 1970s oil shock, is simply astonishing, and with hindsight, outright scandalous. As for the academics, they ignored it, and simply told Mr Adams free energy was impossible and 'against all the laws of physics'. Academics like to put theory before experiment - it is their way. Frustrated in 1992 Mr Adams published his technology in Nexus Magazine, putting for the very first time, a working free energy device into the public domain. However, sadly, the continued lack of interest in free energy solutions from the general public, government, big business, scientific community, and environmental organizations alike, means the motor has still not been commercialized. Subsequent to the 1992 original Nexus article, an Englishman called Mr Harold Aspden helped draw up what became GB Patent 282 708, a document which like the original Nexus article, is certainly not without its flaws, due primarily to the lack of experimental experience of the author. For example, Mr Aspden was apparently unaware the motor runs off time reversed negative current, something anyone with a working unit knows full well. Nonetheless, the patent remains an important landmark in Adams motor research, because of the more recognizably modern and scientific terminology Mr Aspden used to describe the motor, and as a consequence, is given in the appendix to this document.

More Evidence Acquits Dino-Killer Meteor

By Larry O'Hanlon, Discovery News

March 27, 2006— The infamous dino-killer meteor was nothing of the sort, according to a story told by melted glass spheres ejected from the Yucatan's Chicxulub impact crater that landed as far away as Texas and Haiti.

The ages and chemical signatures of the glass spherules from northeast Mexico, Guatemala, Belize, Texas, and Haiti all indicate that the giant Chicxulub meteorite impact came 300,000 years too early to have been the culprit in one of the Earth's biggest mass extinction events 65 million years ago.

"The original spherule layer is not at the K-T boundary," said Chicxulub researcher Markus Harting of Utrecht University in the Netherlands.

By "original," he means the layer of spherules found in sediments from the various locations that mark the first fall of the spherules from the sky immediately after the impact.

Subsequent layers of "ejecta" spherules have been identified, but Harting's geochemical analysis shows they are all more worn and weathered, indicating that they are just re-worked spherules from the original layer.

Harting is scheduled to present his latest findings on April 3 at the co-meeting of the Geological Society of America and the Asociación Geológica Argentina in Mendoza, Argentina.

"He has the most comprehensive dataset on Chicxulub impact glass from the entire Central America area and now Texas," said geologist Gerta Keller of Princeton University.

(picture : This is a scanning electron microscope picture of an isolated, well preserved spherule from northeastern Mexico.)

She has studied some of the very same rocks to unravel the environments they represent. Her work also points to the Chicxulub impact being too early to account for the mass die-offs and the famous extraterrestrial iridium layer found worldwide in rocks at the Cretaceous-Tertiary (K-T) boundary, 65 million years ago.

The iridium layer is the original evidence used to argue for a mega-murderous impact.

"In essence, his work has confirmed that the oldest ejecta layer is the original Chicxulub fallout and that over time erosion, transport and re-deposition of the original spherule layer in shallow areas resulted in the additional spherule deposits," said Keller.

For those reluctant to abandon the killer meteor theory, Harting offers up the possibility that Chicxulub may have been in some way responsible for the extinction of ammonites, the once common nautilus-like sea creatures.

"Ammonites start to go extinct and are almost done before the K-T boundary," said Harting.

On the other hand, turtles and crocodiles weathered the K-T boundary just fine, which would seem to argue against the idea that the Chicxulub impact caused a worldwide dust storm that cooled and killed almost all life with a "nuclear winter" scenario. Turtles and crocs are warmth and sun-loving creatures, after all, he said.

And as for what, then, caused the famous iridium layer, which is undoubtedly from outer space, Harting said there are other possibilities.

One is that Earth and the entire solar system passed through a dense cloud of galactic dust 65 million years ago.

That would have caused harmless meteor showers that would have left their iridium in the atmosphere, and that would have been quickly rained out and deposited in lakes and oceans worldwide.

Soooo.. I guess we all are left with.. WHY did the dino's die? and where did the world wide iridium layer come from..???

Instant rejection

I know that I do it too.. But I try to see all sides of things..

The issue I am having is peoples refusal to even consider something new and different.. Not even trying to see, hear, or investigate the subject at all... Just a instant rejection.. Based on a thoughts or beliefs that's really not even based in true facts...

Lets take an example of GRAVITY :) and you that have talked to me within the past month KNOW about my views on gravity, anyway... Newton and Einstein DESCRIBED the effects of gravity.. I explain WHY a person or object has the effects that we call gravity...

Newton admitted he didn't know WHY or WHAT gravity is, Einstein gave a good description of it and tried to give a reasoning for it that most people could understand (while still keeping the ZPE out of his equations).

But when I describe a different point of view that gives the same effects and explains the anomalies that Newtonian gravity cant explain.. Some people have a instant knee jerk reaction... I wonder why this is... Are people in fear of something new? Do they think they know everything about the subject? Are they just spewing so called facts that they learned when they were younger. Do they not hear when a scientist says "WE THINK this is why.. (insert any theory here)" ..

Lets look at Dark matter - From Wikipedia
In cosmology, dark matter refers to hypothetical matter particles, of unknown composition, that do not emit or reflect enough electromagnetic radiation to be detected directly, but whose presence can be inferred from gravitational effects on visible matter such as stars and galaxies. The dark matter hypothesis aims to explain several anomalous astronomical observations, such as anomalies in the rotational speed of galaxies (the galaxy rotation problem). Estimates of the amount of matter present in galaxies, based on gravitational effects, consistently suggest that there is far more matter than is directly observable. The existence of dark matter would also resolve a number of inconsistencies in the Big Bang theory, and is crucial for structure formation.

If dark matter does exist, it has vastly more mass than the "visible" part of the universe. Only about 4% of the total mass in the universe (as inferred from gravitational effects) can be seen directly. About 22% is thought to be composed of dark matter. The remaining 74% is thought to consist of dark energy, an even stranger component, distributed diffusely in space, that probably cannot be thought of as ordinary particles. Determining the nature of this missing mass is one of the most important problems in modern cosmology and particle physics.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dark_matter
----

96% of the entire universe is not visible or can be detected and this is all based on gravitational observations... So instead of looking at the gravitational theory as possibility NOT being totally correct... Lets "make up" something that we cant see or detect and add that to the conventional way of thinking until it fits all nice and good .. ahhh.. Now I feel all cozy now... Since we have a name for this "unknown" stuff... Even though they just RENAMED a idea from the past... Why rename a idea from the past.. Because Einstein took it out of his equations and said we didn't need it so it didn't exist... and saying Einstein was wrong (or not totally correct) is like committing academic suicide... God forbid ANYONE say Einstein was wrong...

"who are you to say Einstein is wrong"
"who do you think you are? Einstein?"

oh and dont even bring up the "Graviton" reason for gravity.. its the same as dark matter/energy...

So call it what you will ... Dark Matter/Dark Energy... Whatever... Feel all cozy in your rigid thoughts.. for a storm of change is coming.. and it will blow the straw/stick/brick house of your mind away.... Unless.... your willing to bend with the wind.. like a reed.. flow with the ideas and look at them from a totally different point of view... you just might see that we are living a illusion :)

Brain Cells Fused with Computer Chip

The line between living organisms and machines has just become a whole lot blurrier. European researchers have developed "neuro-chips" in which living brain cells and silicon circuits are coupled together.

The achievement could one day enable the creation of sophisticated neural prostheses to treat neurological disorders or the development of organic computers that crunch numbers using living neurons.

To create the neuro-chip, researchers squeezed more than 16,000 electronic transistors and hundreds of capacitors onto a silicon chip just 1 millimeter square in size.

They used special proteins found in the brain to glue brain cells, called neurons, onto the chip. However, the proteins acted as more than just a simple adhesive.

"They also provided the link between ionic channels of the neurons and semiconductor material in a way that neural electrical signals could be passed to the silicon chip," said study team member Stefano Vassanelli from the University of Padua in Italy.

The proteins allowed the neuro-chip's electronic components and its living cells to communicate with each other. Electrical signals from neurons were recorded using the chip's transistors, while the chip's capacitors were used to stimulate the neurons.

It could still be decades before the technology is advanced enough to treat neurological disorders or create living computers, the researchers say, but in the nearer term, the chips could provide an advanced method of screening drugs for the pharmaceutical industry.

"Pharmaceutical companies could use the chip to test the effect of drugs on neurons, to quickly discover promising avenues of research," Vassanelli said.

The researchers are now working on ways to avoid damaging the neurons during stimulation. The team is also exploring the possibility of using a neuron's genetic instructions to control the neuro-chip.

Iceberg D-16 Calves Off East of Fimbul Ice Shelf

March 17, 2006, Washington D.C.-- The National Ice Center (NIC) discovered an iceberg newly calved from the Fimbul Ice Shelf (Figure 1). The Fimbul Ice Shelf is a large sheet of glacial ice and snow extending along the northwestern portion of Queen Maud Land, within the easternmost portion of the Weddell Sea. The new iceberg, named D-16, is centered around 69? 22’ 48” south and 0? 12’ 0” east. Iceberg D-16 measures 15 nautical miles on its longest axis and 8 nautical miles on its widest axis. NIC confirmed the calving of the iceberg using visible imagery from the Department of Defense (DoD) Defense Meteorological Satellites Program (DMSP) Operational Line Scan (OLS) sensor. Mr. Paul Seymour, NIC Operations Technical Advisor, confirmed the calving of D-16. Iceberg names are derived from the Antarctic quadrant in which they were originally sighted. The quadrants are divided counter-clockwise in the following manner:

A = 0-90W (Bellinghausen/Weddell Sea)
B = 90W-180 (Amundsen/Eastern Ross Sea)
C = 180-90E (Western Ross Sea/Wilkesland)
D = 90E-0 (Amery/Eastern Weddell Sea)

When first sighted, an iceberg’s point of origin is documented by the NIC. The letter of the quadrant, along with a sequential number, is assigned to the iceberg. For example, D-16 is sequentially the 16th iceberg tracked by the NIC in Antarctica between 90E-0 (Quadrant D).

The National Ice Center is a tri-agency operational center represented by the United States Navy (Department of Defense), the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (Department of Commerce), and the United States Coast Guard (Department of Homeland Security). The National Ice Center mission is to provide worldwide operational ice analyses for the armed forces of the United States and allied nations, U.S. government agencies, and the private sector.

The short answer is, yes; the truth movement has been infiltrated. We've seen that everywhere, from the protests (big & small) to the innocuous peace groups, with anarchists/activists (fake/paid) whose sole purpose is to cause a ruckus so the media can zoom in and narrowly cover a protest crowd as if it's an angry mob worthy of patriot act utilization.

The second aspect of this infiltration is to induce distrust between progressives, activists and anti-nwo patriots. I'm not saying that we shouldn't be suspicious, indeed I've run into these people before when their cover is blown; i'm saying that by narrowing our efforts to single issue campaigns, we are shutting ourselves off from real progressive change.

People can say zionist this, and zionist that, and that's fine, we can talk, discuss, and debate the issues at hand that reside behind the nametag(s) dujour. But when people are so caught up in a single issue like only being anti-zionist, or only being anti-nwo, or only being vegetarian, or only being anti-war, or only being anti-terrorist for that matter, we are merely putting a sloppy regurgatory icon on a whole mess of problems that now exist in the world.

To put it into perspective, take for instance the vegetarian & vegan movement. If the whole point is to reduce suffering of animals, then why do they only point to one solution, to go vegetarian or vegan... Why not also promote free-range organic meat, dairy and eggs? The point i'm trying to make is by putting up one narrow view of the world, you come accross to other people as a fundamentalist and they're red flag goes up and offensive shields quickly form.

What's better? For people's red flags to go up and percieve you're efforts with a distrust, or to make sure people's shields stay down so you can ensure that a seed gets planted; cause once the seed is planted, it's easier to water it and make it grow with engaging facts & ideas

Then there's the whole issue of industrial agriculture. While pro-vegetarians quickly spout their run-down of why other people should go organic/vegan, meanwhile obscene amounts of toxic chemicals and genetically engineered mutations infiltrate the political debate dujour. Guess what? These toxic chemicals poison humans and wildlife causing, gasp -- suffering, bad-health, cancer, supressed immune systems, death, and even mutations. Bring this up to most hardcore vegans or PETA activists and suddenly you might hit a nerve and their whole worldview gets shattered.

Again, I'm not saying that there isn't an NWO or Zionist shadowy elite looking for the next opportunity to advance an agenda. That's all just names that have been thrown out there for people to take-up as an activist cause to finger point at bodies of people and say "these people" over here are the root of all problems and if we beat them and expose them and everyone agrees that they are them, that they are real, and overthrow them, then we win and live happily ever after with a fully restored & ratified constitution & bill of rights.

There's over 246 million children being drug around like slaved cogs in the global economy. Rich political hacks float on top of whole nations, getting bought off by corporations & covert-operations, setting up free trade zones where imf/world-bank induced-poverty runs amuck so that corporations can swoop in and exploit human slaves to their diseased heart's content. Planes fly overhead dumping loads of toxic chemicals (pesticides) on our food supply and our tax subsidies goes to funding all of this.

While people are spouting nwo this & nwo that, or zionist this & zionist that, we can all help monkeywrench their social & economic futilist slave system(s) by promoting local and/or organic agriculture, fair-trade products, enact legislation to take away corporations' rights to personhood, produce engaging informational posters, lobby representatives to become active and take a stand on certain issues that, not only will effect our collective future, but their own well-being & future health of their own family.

What part of Depleted Uranium mutation toxicity don't they understand? Print off copies of government/university documents about it and personally go down to their next meeting or public-hearing and hand it to them directly, letting everyone else know what it is and how it effects them. Plant all these seeds on a whole range of issues and then maybe you can start spouting nwo or zionist terms. But until then, you are severly limiting your human potential for activist-induced change. There are trillions of ways of taking on the NWO, don't let activist prison cells form around you; become, *gasp, open-minded! lol

Solipsism

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solipsism

Solipsism is also commonly understood to encompass the metaphysical belief that only one's self exists, and that "existence" just means being a part of one's own mental states — all objects, people, etc, that one experiences are merely parts of one's own mind.
  1. Nothing exists
  2. Even if something exists, nothing can be known about it, and
  3. Even if something could be known about it, knowledge about it can't be communicated to others

Most Puzzling Ancient Artifacts

This is such a small scratch of the strangeness of our knowledge of this world - Az

Over the last few hundred years, many perplexing artifacts have been unearthed that do not fit the currently accepted theories of geology and the history of man.

The Bible tells us that God created Adam and Eve just a few thousand years ago, by some fundamentalist interpretations. Science informs us that this is mere fiction and that man is a few million years old, and that civilization just tens of thousands of years old. Could it be, however, that conventional science is just as mistaken as the Bible stories? There is a great deal of archeological evidence that the history of life on earth might be far different than what current geological and anthropological texts tell us. Consider these astonishing finds:

The Grooved Spheres
For the past three decades miners at the Wonderstone Silver Mine near Ottosdal in the Western Transvaal, South Africa, have been extracting out of deep rock several strange metallic spheroids. So far at least 200 have been found. In 1979, several were closely examined by J.R. McIver, professor of geology at the University of Witwaterstand in Johannesburg, and geologist professor Andries Bisschoff of Potsshefstroom University.

The metallic spheroids look like flattened globes, averaging 1 to 4 inches in diameter, and their exteriors usually are colored steel blue with a reddish reflection, and embedded in the metal are tiny flecks of white fibers. They are made of a nickel-steel alloy which does not occur naturally, and is of a composition that rules them out, being of meteoric origin. Some have only a thin shell about a quarter of an inch thick, and when broken open are found filled with a strange spongy material that disintegrated into dust on contact with the air.

What makes all this very remarkable is that the spheroids were mined out of a layer of pyrophyllite rock, dated both geologically and by the various radio-isotope dating techniques as being at least 2.8 to 3 billion years old.

Adding mystery to mystery, Roelf Marx, curator of the South African Klerksdorp Museum, has discovered that the spheroid he has on exhibit slowly rotates on its axis by its own power, while locked in its display case and free of outside vibrations. There may thus be an energy extant within these spheroids still operating after three eons of time. (more info)

The Dropa Stones
In 1938, an archeological expedition led by Dr. Chi Pu Tei into the Baian-Kara-Ula mountains of China made an astonishing discovery in some caves that had apparently been occupied by some ancient culture. Buried in the dust of ages on the cave floor were hundreds of stone disks. Measuring about nine inches in diameter, each had a circle cut into the center and was etched with a spiral groove, making it look for all the world like some ancient phonograph record some 10,000 to 12,000 years old. The spiral groove, it turns out, is actually composed of tiny hieroglyphics that tell the incredible story of spaceships from some distant world that crash-landed in the mountains. The ships were piloted by people who called themselves the Dropa, and the remains of whose descendents, possibly, were found in the cave. (more info)

The Ica Stones
Beginning in the 1930s, the father of Dr. Javier Cabrera, Cultural Anthropologist for Ica, Peru, discovered many hundreds of ceremonial burial stones in the tombs of the ancient Incas. Dr. Cabrera, carrying on his father's work, has collected more than 1,100 of these andesite stones, which are estimated to be between 500 and 1,500 years old and have become known collectively as the Ica Stones. The stones bear etchings, many of which are sexually graphic (which was common to the culture), some picture idols and others depict such practices as open-heart surgery and brain transplants. The most astonishing etchings, however, clearly represent dinosaurs - brontosaurs, triceratops (see photo), stegosaurus and pterosaurs. While skeptics consider the Ica Stones a hoax, their authenticity has neither been proved or disproved. (more info)

The Antikythera Mechanism
A perplexing artifact was recovered by sponge-divers from a shipwreck in 1900 off the coast of Antikythera, a small island that lies northwest of Crete. The divers brought up from the wreck a great many marble and and bronze statues that had apparently been the ship's cargo. Among the findings was a hunk of corroded bronze that contained some kind of mechanism composed of many gears and wheels. Writing on the case indicated that it was made in 80 B.C., and many experts at first thought it was an astrolabe, an astronomer's tool. An x-ray of the mechanism, however, revealed it to be far more complex, containing a sophisticated system of differential gears. Gearing of this complexity was not known to exist until 1575! It is still unknown who constructed this amazing instrument 2,000 years ago or how the technology was lost. (more info)

The Baghdad Battery
Today batteries can be found in any grocery, drug, convenience and department store you come across. Well, here's a battery that's 2,000 years old! Known as the Baghdad Battery, this curiosity was found in the ruins of a Parthian village believed to date back to between 248 B.C. and 226 A.D. The device consists of a 5-1/2-inch high clay vessel inside of which was a copper cylinder held in place by asphalt, and inside of that was an oxidized iron rod. Experts who examined it concluded that the device needed only to be filled with an acid or alkaline liquid to produce an electric charge. It is believed that this ancient battery might have been used for electroplating objects with gold. If so, how was this technology lost... and the battery not rediscovered for another 1,800 years? The Coso Artifact
While mineral hunting in the mountains of California near Olancha during the winter of 1961, Wallace Lane, Virginia Maxey and Mike Mikesell found a rock, among many others, that they thought was a geode - a good addition for their gem shop. Upon cutting it open, however, Mikesell found an object inside that seemed to be made of white porcelain. In the center was a shaft of shiny metal. Experts estimated that, if this was a geode, it should have taken about 500,000 years for this fossil-encrusted nodule to form, yet the object inside was obviously of sophisticated human manufacture. Further investigation revealed that the porcelain was surround by a hexagonal casing, and an x-ray revealed a tiny spring at one end, like a spark plug. There's a bit of controversy around this artifact, as you can imagine. Some contend that the artifact was not inside a geode at all, but encased in hardened clay. The artifact itself has been identified by experts as a 1920s-era Champion spark plug. Unfortunately, the Coso Artifact has gone missing and cannot be thoroughly examined. Is there a natural explanation for it? Or was it found, as the discoverer claimed, inside a geode? If so, how could a 1920s sparkplug get inside a 500,000-year-old rock? (more info)

Central American Ancient Model Jet Aircraft
In 1954 the government of Colombia sent part of its collection of ancient gold artifacts on a U. S. tour. Emmanuel Staubs, one of America's leading jewelers, was commissioned to cast reproductions of six of the objects. Fifteen years later one was given to biologist-zoologist Ivan T. Sanderson for analysis. After a thorough examination and consulting a number of experts, Sanderson's mind-boggling conclusion was that the object is a model of a high-speed aircraft at least a thousand years old.

Approximately 2 inches long the object was worn as a pendant on a neck chain. It was classified as Sinu, a pre-Inca culture from A.D. 500 to 800. Both Sanderson and Dr. Arthur Poyslee of the Aeronautical Institute of New York concluded it did not represent any known winged animal. In fact, the little artifact appears more mechanical than biological. For example, the front wings are delta-shaped and rigidly straight edged, very un-animal-like.

The rudder is perhaps the most un-animal but airplane-like item. It is right-triangle, flat-surfaced, and rigidly perpendicular to the wings. Only fish have upright tail fins, but none have exclusively an upright flange without a counter-balancing lower one. Adding to the mystery, an insignia appears on the left face of the rudder, precisely where ID marks appear on many airplanes today. The insignia is perhaps as out-of place as the gold model itself, for it has been identified as the Aramaic or early Hebrew letter beth or B. This may indicate that the original plane did not come from Colombia, but was the product of a very early people inhabiting the Middle East who knew the secret of flying. (more info and here)

Giant Stone Balls of Costa Rica
Workmen hacking and burning their way through the dense jungle of Costa Rica to clear an area for banana plantations in the 1930s stumbled upon some incredible objects: dozens of stone balls, many of which were perfectly spherical. They varied in size from as small as a tennis ball to an astonishing 8 feet in diameter and weighing 16 tons! Although the great stone balls are clearly man-made, it is unknown who made them, for what purpose and, most puzzling, how they achieved such spherical precision. (more info)

Impossible Fossils
Fossils, as we learned in grade school, appear in rocks that were formed many thousands of years ago. Yet there are a number of fossils that just don't make geological or historical sense. A fossil of a human handprint, for example, was found in limestone estimated to be 110 million years old. What appears to be a fossilized human finger found in the Canadian Arctic also dates back 100 to 110 million years ago. And what appears to be the fossil of a human footprint, possibly wearing a sandal, was found near Delta, Utah in a shale deposit estimated to be 300 million to 600 million years old. (picture - "The 3.5 million-year-old fossilized footprints of human ancestors discovered in Laetoli, Africa.")

Out-of-Place Metal Objects
Humans were not even around 65 million years ago, never mind people who could work metal. So then how does science explain semi-ovoid metallic tubes dug out of 65-million-year-old Cretaceous chalk in France? In 1885, a block of coal was broken open to find a metal cube obviously worked by intelligent hands. In 1912, employees at an electric plant broke apart a large chunk of coal out of which fell an iron pot! A nail was found embedded in a sandstone block from the Mesozoic Era. And there are many, many more such anomalies.

STARCHILD" SKULL
The "Starchild" is a true bone skull independently dated by Carbon 14 to be 900 years old (+/- 40 years). It is unlike any other human-like skull ever seen before. The name "Starchild" is the result of early X-rays taken of the skull and maxilla fragment found with it, which showed unerupted teeth that, combined with the smaller-than-normal-adult size of the skull, indicated a child of 5 or 6.

From implausibly shallow eye sockets to the total lack of frontal sinuses, the Starchild skull's morphology cannot be accounted for by any known combination of deformities. The bone is half as thick, weighs half as much, and is double or triple the strength of normal human bone--unlike anything known by science. Furthermore, INSIDE that unusual bone are microscopic fibers and a reddish residue that cannot be explained at the present time. http://www.starchildproject.com/

THE STRANGE ELECTRON TUBES FROM DENDERA
In different locations within the Late Ptolemaic Temple of Hathor at Dendera in Egypt are curious wall engravings which Egyptologists cannot explain in traditional religio-mythic terms, but about which electrical engineers are finding very modern interpretations.

In one chamber, No. 17, the topmost panel, depicts Egyptian priests operating what look like oblong tubes, performing various specific tasks. Each tube has a serpent extending its full length inside. Swedish engineer Henry Kjellson, in his book Forvunen Teknik (Disappeared Technology), noted that in the hieroglyphs these serpents are translated as seref, which means to glow, and believes it refers to some form of electrical current. In the scene, to the extreme right appears a box on top where sits an image of the Egyptian god Atum-Ra, which identifies the box as the energy source. Attached to the box is a braided cable which electromagnetics engineer Alfred D. Bielek identified as virtually an exact copy of engineering illustrations used today for representing a bundle of conducting electrical wires. The cable runs from the box the full length of the floor of the picture, and terminates at both the ends and at the bases of the tube objects. These objects each rest on a pillar called a djed, which Bielek identified as a high-voltage insulator.

The tube objects look very much like TV picture tubes, an impression which is not far from wrong, for electronics technician N. Zecharius has identified the objects as Crookes or electron tubes, the forerunner of the modern television tube.

Though the upper chamber scenes have been damaged by vandals from a later age, other pictures found inside the crypt below the Holy of Holies are almost perfectly preserved, and their portrayal deepens the mystery of the strange electron tubes even further. Here, not only are the tubes shown in full operation, but something else has been added which may suggest the ultimate purpose for the tubes themselves. In several instances, both men and women are shown sitting underneath the tubes, hands held out and cupped, which meant they were in a receptive mode. What kind of radiation treatment was being performed here?

THE ENIGMA OF THE ASHOKA PILLAR
A testimony to ancient metallurgical skills in Delhi, India is called the Ashoka Pillar. Standing over 23 feet, it averages 16 inches in diameter and weighs about 6 tons. The solid wrought-iron shaft is made up of expertly welded discs. An inscription on the base is an epitaph to King Chandra Gupta II, who died in A.D. 413.

Despite being well over a millennium and a half in age, the Pillar's constitution is remarkably preserved. The smooth surface is like polished brass with only occasional instances of pock-marks and weathering. The mystery is that any equivalent mass of iron, subjected to the Indian monsoon rains, winds and temperatures for 1,600 years or more would have been reduced to rust long ago.

Production of the iron and the techniques of preservation are far beyond 5th century abilities. It is probably far older, maybe several thousand years. Who were the mysterious metallurgists who made this wonder, and what happened to their civilization? (more info and here)

FLIGHT IN ANCIENT EGYPT
In 1898 a curious winged object was discovered in the tomb of Pa-di-Imen in north Saqqara, Egypt dated to about 200 B.C. Because the birth of modern aviation was still several years away, when the strange artifact was sent to the Cairo Museum, it was catalogued and then shelved among other miscellaneous items to gather dust.

Seventy years later, Dr. Kahlil Messiha, an Egyptologist and archaeologist, was examining a Museum display labeled bird figurines. While most of the display were indeed bird sculptures, the Saqqara artifact was certainly not. It possessed characteristics never found on birds, yet which are part of modern aircraft design. Dr. Messiha, a former model plane enthusiast, immediately recognized the aircraft features and persuaded the Egyptian Ministry of Culture to investigate.

Made of very light sycamore the craft weighs 0.5 oz. with straight and aerodynamically shaped wings, spanning about 7 inches. A separate slotted piece fits onto the tail precisely like the back tail wing on a modern plane.

A full-scale version could have flown carrying heavy loads, but at low speeds, between 45 and 65 miles per hour. What is not known, however, is what the power source was. The model makes a perfect glider as it is. Even though over 2,000 years old, it will soar a considerable distance with only a slight jerk of the hand. Fully restored balsa replicas travel even farther.

Messiha notes that the ancient Egyptians often built scale models of everything familiar in their daily lives and placed them in their tombs, temples, ships, chariots, servants, animals and so forth. Now that we have found a model plane, Messiha wonders if perhaps somewhere under the desert sands there may yet be unearthed the remains of life-sized gliders.

CRYSTAL SKULL FROM ATLANTIS
Without doubt the most famous and enigmatic ancient crystal is the skull, discovered in 1927 by F.A. Mitchell-Hedges atop a ruined temple at the ancient Mayan city of Lubaantum, in British Honduras, now Belize.

The skull was made from a single block of clear quartz, 5 inches high, 7 inches long and 5 inches wide. It is about the size of a small human cranium, with near perfect detail. In 1970, art restorer Frank Dorland was given permission to submit the skull to tests at the Hewlitt-Packard Laboratories. Revealed were many anomalies.

The skull had been carved with total disregard to the natural crystal axis, a process unheard-of in modern crystallography. No metal tools were used. Dorland was unable to find any tell-tale scratch marks. Indeed, most metals would have been ineffectual. A modern penknife cannot mark it. From tiny patterns near the carved surfaces, Dorland determined it was first chiseled into rough form, probably using diamonds. The finer shaping, grinding and polishing, Dorland believes, was done with innumerable applications of water and silicon-crystal sand. If true, it would have taken 300 years of continuous labor. We must accept this almost unimaginable feat, or admit to the use of some form of lost technology.

Modern science is stumped to explain the skill and knowledge incorporated. As Garvin summarized: It is virtually impossible today, in the time when men have climbed mountains on the moon, to duplicate this achievement...It would not be a question of skill, patience and time. It would simply be impossible. As one crystallographer from Hewlitt-Packard said, The damned thing shouldn't be. (more info)

WHO SHOT NEANDERTHAL MAN?
The Museum of Natural History in London displays an early Paleolithic skull, dated at 38,000 years old, and excavated in 1921 in modern Zambia. On the left side of the skull is a perfectly round hole nearly a third of an inch in diameter. Curiously, there are no radial split-lines around the hole or other marks that should have been left by a cold weapon, such as an arrow or spear. Opposite the hole, the cranium is shattered, and reconstruction of the fragments show the skull was blown from the inside out, as from a rifle shot. In fact, any slower a projectile would have produced neither the neat hole nor the shattering effect. Forensic experts who have examined the skull agree the cranial damage could not have been caused by anything but a high-speed projectile, purposely fired at the prehistoric victim, with intent to kill.

If such a weapon was indeed fired at the man, then one of two conclusions can be made: Either the specimen is not as old as it is claimed to be, and was shot by a European in recent centuries, or the remains are as old as claimed, and the marksman was ancient too. In view of the fact that the Paleolithic skull was excavated from a depth of 60 feet, mostly of lead rock, the second conclusion is more plausible. But who possessed gunpowder 38,000 years ago? Certainly not Stone Age man himself. Another race must have existed, one far more advanced and civilized, yet contemporary. The question is, where did that rifle-toting marksman call home?

The Dogons
The Dogons are a people well known by their cosmogony, their esotericism, their myths and legends that interest foreigners at the highest point in search for culture or tourism.

The population is assessed to be about 300,000 people living in the South West of the Niger loop in the region of Mopti in Mali (Bandiagara, Koro, Banka), near Douentza and part of the North of Burkina (North west of Ouahigouya).

The Dogon's (Mali, Africa) homeland has been designated a World Heritage site for its cultural and natural significance. They are also famous for their artistic abilities and vast knowledge about astrology, especially the Sirius star, which is the center of their religious teachings. The Dogons know that Sirius A, the brightest system in our firmament, is next to a small white dwarf called Sirius B, which was not identified by western scientists until 1978. The Dogons knew about it at least 1000 years ago. Sirius B has formed the basis of the holiest Dogon beliefs since antiquity.

Western astronomers did not discover the star until the middle of the nineteenth century, and it wasn't even photographed until 1970. The Dogons go as far as describing a third star in the Sirius system, called "Emme Ya" that, to date, has not been identified by astronomers. In addition to their knowledge of Sirius B, the Dogon mythology includes Saturn's rings and Jupiter's four major moons. They have four calendars, for the Sun, Moon, Sirius, and Venus, and have long known that planets orbit the sun.

How this Dogon's Enigmatic Scientific Knowledge about Astronomy came from?
According to their oral traditions, a race people from the Sirius system called the Nommos visited Earth thousands of years ago. The Nommos were ugly, amphibious beings that resembled mermen and mermaids. They also appear in Babylonian, Accadian, and Sumerian myths. The Egyptian Goddess Isis, who is sometimes depicted as a mermaid, is also linked with the star Sirius. The Nommos, according to the Dogon legend, lived on a planet that orbits another star in the Sirius system. They landed on Earth in an "ark" that made a spinning decent to the ground with great noise and wind. It was the Nommos that gave the Dogon the knowledge about Sirius B !

Ancient Indian City Irradiated From Atomic Blast
There is an area in Rajasthan, India with a layer of radioactive ash covering a three square mile area ten miles west of Jodhpur. The radiation is so intense that the area is considered dangerous. Scientists are investigating the site which was being developed into a housing development.

It was established that the area had a high incidence of birth defects and cancer while the area was under construction. The levels of radiation have measured so high on instruments that the Indian government has now restricted access to the area.

Scientists discovered an ancient city at the site which shows evidence of and atomic blast which the experts date back to between 8,000 and 12,000 years ago. The blast destroyed most of the buildings and probably a half-million people. One researcher has estimated that the blast was comparable to one of the bombs dropped over Japan during W.W.II

The Mahabharata, an ancient Indian document, describes a devastating explosion that shook the continent.... "A single projectile charged with all the power in the universe...An incandescent column of smoke and flame as bright as 10,000 suns, rose in all its splendor...it was an unknown weapon, an iron thunderbolt, a gigantic messenger of death which reduced to ashes an entire race...the corpses were so burned as to be unrecognizable. Their hair fell out, pottery broke
without any apparent cause, and the birds turned white. After a few hours, all foodstuffs were infected. To escape from this fire, the soldiers threw themselves in the river."

Historian Kisari Mohan Ganguli says that Indian sacred writings are full of such descriptions, which sound like an atomic blast as witnessed in Japan in 1945. References in the ancient writings also mention fighting sky chariots and the final weapons. "An ancient battle is described in great detail in the writing titled the Drona Pavra, which is a section of the Mahabharata.
