Light Waves Concept Introduces 22 Watt LED

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 22, 2006--Light Waves Concept, Inc., added a 22 watt Light Emitting Diode to their website this week. Company president Joel Slavis hailed it as "the brightest LED bulb in existence" and went on to explain that "The PAR 30 72 LED bulb screws in to all standard Edison bulb bases, has a lifespan of over 5 years and gives off 990 lumens- the equivalent to around 50 or 60 watts in traditional terms. And, like all LEDs, it is 90% efficient in its energy usage compared with the 90% inefficiency rating of standard bulbs."

Princeton's Institute for Advanced Study has said LEDs will be ready to completely replace the standard light bulb once their lumen output ratio equals 110 lumens per watt. With a ratio of 45 lumens per watt Light Waves' new LED comes closer to that goal than anything previously on the market.

"This bulb can be used anywhere you want a beam of light to focus on something , as opposed to generally lighting a room- although, this is technically bright enough to do that too. It is a viable replacement for any light people use for reading, cooking or working or any other task-oriented activities."

Retailing at just over $200.00, the bulb may seem a bit pricey to those unfamiliar with the LED lighting phenomenon, but the massive energy savings and long lifespan typically ensure the products pay for themselves within the first two years. "After that, it's all profit," confirmed Slavis.

Slavis plans to market the bulb primarily to architects, contractors and facility managers and other building and remodeling professionals involved in the "green" market. The Brooklyn-based Light Waves was primarily a track lighting manufacturer until 2001 when it aggressively overhauled operations to focus on LEDs. Slavis said the move is responsible for reported growth of 49.6% in 2005.

"An increasing number of people are building and renovating with energy conservation in mind. At the beginning of the new millennium we saw the need for energy-efficient lighting and began our LED branch. Now, it's sweeping the globe and we can hardly keep up with the orders."

This month, Light Waves provided LEDs to the CBS television network, the Pentagon and several countries across the pond, most recently Finland. In addition to LED bulbs, the company sells LED rope lights, tube lights, recessed lamps, underwater lamps and path lights.
